Healthy snacking

image

The worst part of dieting and/or trying to live a healthy life is the frequent cravings for junk food. I am not immune to these feelings. So tonight I’m going to do something about it. The picture above is the vegetable chips I’m about to make. I got the recipe online but here’s what I did:
*first I sliced the vegetable very thin
*then I placed them in a ziploc bag, sprinkled them with salt, pepper and garlic powder and shook them up
*after, I laid them flat on an aluminum pan (they’re not supposed to be touching each other but I prepared too much so….)
*then I used a brush (you can use a paper towel or pour directly) to glaze them with olive oil (not sure if glaze is the correct term to use here. Culinary terms are not my strong suit lol).
Now they are in the oven and will stay there until they are crisp (not burnt lol).
Share your healthy snacks with me. I’ll perhaps try them and post my results!

Dieting and dining out

image

There’s nothing more intimidating than going out to eat while on a diet. The dilemma: What do I eat vs. What should I eat vs. What can I eat. So last night I went out to a friend’s birthday dinner and it wasn’t as frustrating as it usually is to order while dieting. I’ve come up with a list of Do’s to follow when dining out.
*Carefully monitor calorie intake the day of and if you can, cut down on some calories.
*Go to the gym or do some workout routines at home before preparing to go out.
*Give yourself a pep talk throughout the day and/or before entering the restaurant
*It may be helpful to identify one person at the table to assist you in staying on track.
*Appetizer: salad- you can request the removal of foods that aren’t included in your diet plan
*entrée: fish/steak/chicken prepared by grilling, baking, steaming or any other method that is in accordance with your diet.
*drink water throughout the meal and if you are planning to order another drink besides water, request that they bring it during the entrée. Recommended alcoholic drink: club soda and vodka with lime. No wine or sweet rum
*make/engage yourself in conversation (distraction!)

The picture above shows my dinner. I had grilled fish and “salad”.

Burned out

image

So tonight when I got home from aerobics class I was FAMISHED so I made a mini salad with chunks of baked chicken breast, tomatoes, lettuce and apples. Then drank a big glass of water to carry it down. I was feeling too burned to be extravagant in my salad making 😂😂😂 I also added a simple dressing I made myself since my diet restricts bottled salad dressings.
Side note: I usually don’t eat after workouts but today I felt like the little calories that I did eat got burned out!

I am a cheater!

image

I get so tired of the lack of variation on this diet so today I cheated and I don’t regret it! I’m only allowed to eat one veggie with each meal but on this day, the 1st Nov 2015, I made a herb salad. In the herb salad I put onions, tomatoes and bell peppers mixed with lime, hot sauce and seasoning. I ate it along with a slice of baked chicken breast. It was frigging delicious!  Just what I needed to carry me through the day.

Things I’ve missed on my diet

I was always a fan of savory foods, rather than sugary ones. Here’s a list of foods that I miss terribly on my current diet plan:

Cheese
Bread
Potatoes
Eggs (especially boiled egg)
Corned beef
Popcorn
White rice
Fried chicken/meat
Hamburgers
Pasta
Stuffing
Pizza
Cheesecake

Getting hungry thinking about these foods but I’m determined to drop the pounds and become an overall healthy person.

Calculator messages

image

Happy Technology Tuesday! I remember using the calculator to send messages to my classmates. I thought it was so cool and it made using the calculator fun and easy. My friends and I even made short sentences. Some even tried to use it to cheat during exams, for example during the multiple choice section. I never cheated by the way…. couldn’t allow someone to get a better grade than me, to be honest. The competition in the classroom was real! Well anyway back to the calculator, helpful device and surprisingly cool!

Stupid flax seeds

image

So…. in my first blog I stated how I was on a diet plan and a part of that diet is to exclude starches and other carbohydrates! That’s right. You heard correctly, NO CARBOHYDRATES! This was pretty difficult for me at first but reading online I saw that I can use flax seed to replace flour. I was excited!!! I went to the store right away and bought them. The first thing I made was a mini flax seed bread, a recipe I got online. BIG mistake! It tasted like coarse manure! So I played around with the recipe a bit and made a banana flax seed bread. I know a lot of people are looking for dieting help so here’s what I used:
**DISCLAMER: I am not good with measurements. I just go by “hand”
*1 cup of flax seed
*2 eggs
* 2 tablespoons low fat and low carb yogurt  (optional)
* 1 tablespoon of pure vanilla
*1 tablespoon of baking powder  (optional)
*sprinkle of cinnamon
*mashed bananas (I put about 1 and a half cups but you can use whatever you’re comfortable using)
*stevia sweetener to your taste
Mix all ingredients and place in oven at 350 degrees for 15-20 mins (I’ve also tried it in the microwave but I think the texture is better when using the oven)
I loved the taste!! Good luck

“Unfruitful” relationships

How many times can a person cheat, abuse and/or neglect and expect that all be the same in the relationship?? Alot of articles speak encouragement to the victim but I’m going to speak to the oppressor. Mister or Miss Oppresor, here are the things you need to know:
1) If you have done wrong to your partner repeatedly and that person is still with you, GET OUT! You are with a crazy person. You may think you’ve gotten away with it BUT when that person snaps, you’re going to get all of that wrong doing back TIMES TEN!!
2) I’m sorry to inform you but your partner doesn’t love you anymore and he/she is probably waiting for an opportunity to leave or hurt. They may be holding onto you because nobody better has come along yet. Good timing is key!
3) When this person leaves you, you’re going to be devastated and may become a bit “stalker-ish”. This is normal; you’re losing control.
4) Every future partner is going to be compared to him/her. Remember not everyone is going to take your BS! This will lead to more wrongdoing and the cycle starts again.
SO… basically I’m saying if you don’t want to end up DEAD, HEARTBROKEN OR STALKING, stop your wrongdoing now! #my5cents
